Taste of Aberdeen

Hey everyone!

This week I was invited by Chinesebites to their Taste of Aberdeen Media Event. This event we got to sample some of the top items from every food court vendor at Aberdeen. Everything was just absolutely amazing and I will list some of my personal top faves at the end of this post!

I occasionally eat at Aberdeen but I usually just go to my usual vendors, so during this event it really opened up my mind to try out the other different vendors that are there. Phil goes to Aberdeen Food Court to eat quite frequently but unfortunately he wasn't able to attend this event with me because his company was invited to a Lobster Festival. Therefore, I brought my friend Alison with me. She personally eats at Aberdeen quite frequently as well so she was really excited to try some of the dishes that she never ordered before.

Saboten- Iced Genmaicha (Japanese Green Tea)

Bubble Waffle- Ice Lemon Ribena

Estea Express- Milk Tea with Pearls

8 Juice- House special (Mango coconut juice with tapioca, mango & pomelo bits)

Aji Hana- Sakura roll (prawn tempura, avocado, chopped scallops)

Bubble Waffle- Bubble Waffle (original flavour)

Bubble Waffle- Curry Fish Balls

Chef of Dumplings- Pan Fried Chinese Chives with Pork Dumplings

Szechuan House- Hot Sour Noodle

Mambo Cafe-Baked Pork Chop on Rice

Tofu Hotpot- Drunken Chicken Hotpot

Kitchen Korea- Chicken Bulgogi & Pork Belly

Leung Kee- Sticky Rice

Leung Kee- Soy Sauce Chicken & Long Gong Chicken

Saboten- Saboten Set (prawn, pork tenderloin, pork loin) the set also includes side miso soup & rice.

Cafe D'Lite Express- Hainanese Chicken on Rice

Teppan Kitchen- 'A' Grade Ribeye Teppan with egg & corn

Mazazu Crepe- Choco banana fresh cream mini crepe

Beard Papa's- Mini cream puffs & cheesecake stick

Frappe Bliss- Shaved ice- A Dream In Eden (strawberries, kiwi, mango, mango ice cream)

Frappe Bliss- Shaved ice- Matcha Delight (matcha ice cream, chewy rice balls & red bean)

Everything was super delicious so it's really hard to narrow down to my top 5 faves. I just want to mention that this top 5 list is just based on my personal liking and it differs person to person so I don't want you to think that not making to my top 5 means its no good, because that is not the case. I want to narrow down to just top 5 so I can talk more about it in depth. There was way too many items served and I have WAY too much to say. I really liked majority of the items based on my personal taste palette and I've concluded my top 5 faves as:

1) Tofu Hotpot- Drunken Chicken Hotpot
I usually don't go for hotpot when I'm eating out so Tofu Hotpot was never considered whenever I'm at Aberdeen. When I tried this I was absolutely IN LOVE with the soup base. You can definitely smell the alcohol in it but don't worry, you won't get drunk off this dish. It was hot, the ingredients were fresh, the chicken was meaty. It's a great dish to warm up your belly and it was very satisfying. I would definitely try out the rest of their menu now & I'll highly recommend you guys to check them out and order this dish! Everybody at our table loved it so I'm pretty sure you will too!

2) Yougo Chicken- Popcorn Chicken Nuggets
I've tried Yougo Chicken a while back and I remember thinking their chicken tasted great but because there's so many Taiwanese restaurants in Richmond, the competition is tough so I never really went back. But eating this again it reassured me how awesome this place was and still is. As a food court vendor, they definitely do fall in line with a lot of other Taiwanese "restaurants". Their chicken nuggets were SO juicy and flavourful.

3) Bubble Waffle- Original Bubble Waffles & Curry Fish balls
Sometimes when I'm walking around the mall, I get hungry. But not enough to order a whole meal and that's why this became one of my faves. Great snack option & not too filling. Price is good & cheap unlike the usual night market pricings. Their snacks taste great and never disappoints!

4)  8 Juice- House special (Mango coconut juice with tapioca, mango & pomelo bits)
Alison always order this but I didn't even know this drink existed till that night. I never look at the drink menus because I always go for my go-to's and this definitely opened up my mind to more drink options. This drink was so refreshing. They have freshly sliced up mangos in it and I personally LOVE mangos so this instantly stood out to me. Overall it was fresh and definitely a great drink option to get rid of that thirst!

5) Frappe Bliss- Shaved ice- A Dream In Eden (strawberries, kiwi, mango, mango ice cream)
I never order Shaved Ice... the reason being is I've never tried Shaved ice. (I KNOW RIGHT? A MAJOR FOODIE BUT NEVER TRIED SHAVED ICE???) Trust me. I get it. I've been missing out on amazing dessert this whole time, but NOT ANYMORE! Before when I thought about shaved ice is why the hell would I pay them money to eat purely shaved ice with syrup on it? I've been living under a rock this whole time so please don't judge. I fell in LOVE with this dessert. The milk shaved ice served with sliced up pieces of fresh fruit & a big scoop of mango ice cream was absolutely a stunning piece of art.  It was just SO GOOD. Highly recommend trying this!

I want to take the time to Thank Raymond from Chinesebites for inviting Domoiscraving to this event. It was a great experience and a pleasure to try out all these amazing sample dishes from all the Aberdeen Food Court Vendors. I know how busy Aberdeen is, especially during dinner time, so I really appreciate them taking their time to make their top dishes for us to try and sample.

I also want to give a shoutout to Sophia from SophiaEats & Naomi from Constant Cravings. It was a pleasure to finally meet you two in person. Also it was nice to see Kirsty from Eatingwithkirby at this event, it's been a long time!

Thanks for reading
