Domo Is Craving's team was invited to a dinner event hosted by Hakkasan Bistro.
Our invite first started at Canada Berries, which is a local Richmond fruit
winery. We went there around 5:30pm for a wine tasting. Their fruit wines
tasted amazing and my personal favourite was the Gooseberry. Their staff was very informative in
terms of their history, their products & you can definitely tell how
passionate they were about their wines. I highly recommend checking them out
because they only sell their fruit wines at their Richmond winery. I will
include their address at the bottom of my post in case anyone wants to drop by
and check them out! I highly suggest trying the Gooseberry & the Blue Queen
Dry! The ones I like are not the super sweet ones but if you are the kind who
like sweet wines, I recommend trying out their Princess Peach or Princess
Cranberry Fruit wine. The Princess Peach wine is also a great sangria mix!
We were also served with appetizers on the side to pair with our wine. I was
really enjoying their home grown grapes. They told us to try the grapes because
apparently people always say Richmond can't grow great grapes. I can personally
say that their home grown Richmond grapes taste amazing and they are extremely
juicy and sweet!

The other day it was my friends birthday so we decided to go to Suika on Broadway. I've never been to this place before but my friend told me it is absolutely amazing. I had really high expectations for this place and was super stoked to finally get to try this place out.
Since it's located on Broadway, majority of the parking spots are meter parking. We were able to find a spot on one of the closer side streets and paid approx. $3-$4 in parking for two hours.
The exterior of the building was rather simple and didn't really stand out much. The interior on the other hand was pretty unique. It definitely gave a Japanese vibe once you walk in. When you walk in you see a traditional wooden cabinet which acts as a reception desk. They also had a very cool light fixture in the centre of the dining area. It was made out of Japanese looking bottles. I thought it was a very cool idea and definitely gave the place character.
When I sat down, I noticed that their logo was a watermelon. That moment I knew Suika was to represent watermelon. I thought it was such a cute logo and I loved how our napkins, cups & cup coasters had a watermelon on it.
They have a crazy list of cocktails on their menu. The one that stood out to me was their Suika Mojito (aka. watermelon mojito) $8.50. I will definitely bring Phil back here because he LOVES watermelon and he LOVES mojitos. So the two combined would be the ideal combination for him.
Two of my friends ordered the Boston Mojito (aka. fresh ginger mojito) $8.00. Ginger is freshly made in house and the flavor was definitely unique. My friends really liked the freshness of the ginger taste. My other friend ordered the Fresh Lychee Gray (soho, fresh grapefruit & sugar rim) $7.50. I tried it after taking a sip of my watermelon mojito and I think that's why I think her drink was rather sour because my drink is extremely sweet. Everybody thought her drink tasted great and would highly recommend it as well.
Overall all the drinks we ordered were fantastic and would highly recommend just trying whichever one fits your taste! They have a wide range of different flavours in cocktails and that's what I love about this place!

So if you read my food blog on a regular basis, you should know I just blogged about a Flying Pig location in Gastown a few weeks ago. Today I will be talking about the Flying Pig at the Village. I didn't even know that there was a Flying Pig location around there until Phil mentioned it to me when he drove by that area a few weeks ago.
This restaurant is located at the Olympic Village on West 2nd. With tons of brand new apartment buildings, it definitely draws a lot more attention within that area when there is so many great food options.
We went there on a Saturday for my bros birthday. They don't take dinner reservations so I expected a wait. When we got there, there were many people standing around the entrance, so I was prepared to wait for at least 20 mins or more for a table, especially when there was a Canucks game on that night. When I told the host that we were a table of 3, we were seated right away. So I'm assuming those people waiting had large parties.
I was celebrating both my bros birthday because they both have birthdays during April. One of my bros ordered a Mojito & I ordered my usual white wine, Riesling $9.00. My bro thought the Mojito was okay, tried better elsewhere.

After a long day of work, me & my co-workers decided to head down to Gastown to get some food to release some stress. We were planning to try out "Ask for Luigi" but it was over an hour wait, therefore our second choice was "The Flying Pig" in Gastown. I've never been to the Gastown location before and I absolutely love this location way more than the one in Yaletown. This location is bigger in space, a two floor dining restaurant and its a corner location with high length windows allowing lots of natural lighting in to the space.

I started off my weekend going to Tap & Barrel with Phil on Friday. At first we were seated on the second floor middle section table, which was slightly TOO centre of attention for us so we decided to move ourselves up to the bar section. The first floor was already packed full of people so I was pretty glad we got seated on the second floor, so I can actually have clear conversations with Phil and still enjoy the ambience of the space and the food.
We got there a bit past 5pm so it was still pretty bright outside. Full length windows bringing LOTS of natural light in to the space and I love the interior with barrel decors and wooden bar tables. The Village buildings were built to LEED Platinum standards which was indicated in the bathroom stalls. There were signage indicating that they use rain water for toilets, therefore the toilet water may not always be clear. So if you end up using the washrooms in the area, you'll notice that all the toilet water is yellowish color, so don't freak out!
Phil ordered "Phillips-Blue Buck Ale" $7.00.
His thoughts: "Great taste, great beer! Will definitely order this again"
For me, obviously I ordered a Sangria (White Wine) $7.75.

Last night I went out with several of my girlfriends from work and we reserved a table at this restaurant called Gudrun. It was suggested by one of our girlfriends who live in Richmond. She is very familiar with the Steveston location so I assumed her suggestion wouldn't be far off from greatness. Gudrun is located on Moncton Street (Aka.Storybrooke) If you've watched Once Upon A Time, you would recognize that particular street in an instance! It's the street where they filmed one of the hit TV Shows called "Once Upon A Time". I was being a complete fan girl, snapping photos and getting way too excited by looking at the buildings that were filmed and used during the TV Show. Some signage are still up, such as "Mr.Golds Pawnshop" & The clock tower known as the "library".
Now back to talking about Gudrun! This place is a complete hidden gem, it is located along this narrow path where a lot of people may just walk by and not even notice it being there. This place opens from 5:30pm-12am. I highly recommend making reservations because it gets fully packed by 7pm. We got there around 6:30pm and it was still very early so there were barely anyone sitting in there but by 7pm it became packed full of people!

So the other day me and my bestie went out for our annual xmas dinner. This year we were supposed to go to the Keg, but after plans changed we switched to a way fancier place in Downtown and decided to go all out. After all...it is Xmas time and we just received our bonus from work so might as well treat ourselves to something amazing. We went to Black + Blue located on Alberni. That street is usually packed full of people so either cab down or pay for valet parking. I swear paying for valet is a better deal then street parking if you are intending to stay there for over 3 hours.
To start off our dinner, we order 4 Kusshi Oysters ($3.70/each). They were SUPER fresh.
Next we ordered the Beef Carpaccio ($16.00) which was highly recommended by our waiter. He was right...this dish is AMAZING. The combination of the raw beef, grill oyster mushrooms and truffle aioli was just perfect.
Today's blog is for all the ARTEESTS out there who enjoy wine and paint. I cannot paint anything practical so mine was something more abstract. Unfortunately at the end of the day, no one gets what my painting stands for and they just think it's a mess. Despite the fact that my mother called my painting NOT art, I still had a great time with my friends. I love my painting because there was no main purpose, no rules, just a bunch of colours slathered on a canvas to release my daily stress.
So if you've never been to Raw Canvas, I recommend getting their voucher deals online. I think the most recent one just finished, so keep an eye out for future vouchers because it is definitely more worth it if you can get a deal out of it. So I got my voucher from Social Shopper and below is their menu specifically for this deal. Each person gets to choose their own plate: either cheese, meat, or mix. Also they have a choice of a 2 course wine pairing for $18.00. I need my wine while I paint, so I decided to try their 2 recommended wine pairings for the night.
The interior is extremely artsy, from the mesmerizing art works on the wall to the usage of different type of chairs placed around the restaurant, everything just works. The idea of "art" is obviously the whole point of this place and just spreading that across the whole interior just makes the whole place very welcoming and fun. We sat near the windows and they had this purple, flowery wall paper that is spread across that section, which I find very unique because it works with the space and it sort of breaks the whole idea of the white ceilings and the white walls, giving the whole area that extra kick of art.
