Royal Seafood Restaurant

Hey everyone!

My family always go for morning dimsums during the weekend. We always pass by Garden City and noticed there's a dim sum restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Garden City Plaza. One day we decided to give it a try! Surprisingly this place had no line up and we were directed to our seats right away. I love the fact how they are not fully packed because I hate waiting for a table. If you are in the centralized areas of Richmond, such as Aberdeen Centre, you are bound to wait in line. The interior was much nicer than I expected. The seats were covered in seat covers and they also had a little water, flower display up front that looked pretty fancy.

Prince Seafood Restaurant

Hey Everyone,

Not too long ago I had dimsum with Jess and her family at Prince! I've been here previously for dinner but never for dimsum, so I was curious to see how it was. 

We had quite a few items but I'll feature a few select items here.

We had the Steamed Spareribs which were not bad here. I don't usually go for this dish but I was hungry so I had some. I found them to be mediocre, but not special in any way, and to be honest, Jess' mom makes them better!

Joyful Restaurant

So we're really behind on our blogs so here's another one to add to our Las Vegas Trip back in end of February. We are the type of family that gets food sick if it only consists of burgers and fries on a daily basis so of course we hunted down an old favourite of ours in Chinatown. We've been here a couple of years back and we remembered deeply that this place had amazing Chinese food. We decided to try taking an Uber Car down to the area and it only costs $10.00 for the ride. Firebird Cafe

Hey Everyone,

This is the first post from the Chinese Bites VIP Program, as we were invited to try out Firebird Cafe alongside our good friend Eating with Kirby!

Jess and I had never been to Firebird before, but we've definitely dined at several other restaurants in the Continental Shopping Centre. Firebird is located almost next to Pearl Castle.

Shortly after Jess and I got engaged, we did a dinner with both Jess' and my parents together at Taste Good Wonton Seafood Restaurant. I had been to this restaurant before so I was expecting good things.

Claypot Hotpot & BBQ Restaurant

I went to Claypot yesterday with my family and it reminded me that I still didn't blog about my previous experience yet. I went to Claypot for the first time a few weeks ago and i LOVED it.

First off, I recommend booking a table before going because this place gets packed extremely fast, especially during cold Vancity days.

For parking, I recommend car pooling and drive a small vehicle. The parking lot is very small and the spots are very tight.

This place is an all you can eat hot pot restaurant and everyone over 12 years old costs $20.95, children 4-11 years old costs $14.95. They also have a 2 hour limit for the all you can eat. Below, I've included the order menu, so you guys have a clearer idea of what food they offer.

For drinks, they have three options: plum juice, coca cola, and sprite for $1.50 and it is all you can drink. I prefer drinking plum juice during hot pot because it doesn't have any fizz to bloat up my belly. But the rest of my fam ordered the sodas.

I really like this place because their hot pot is a three tiered tower. the top tier is for steaming (recommend steaming some siu mah, if you like the ones from night market), second tier is to bbq and the bottom is of course for the actual hot pot. The bottom tier has a two way split, so you can have two different soup bases.

Dragon View Restaurant

On sundays, we like to go either dim sum or out for brunch and today I'm going to talk about one dim sum place that I like. I've only been to Dragon View once with my family, which was a few weeks back. My dad heard many good things about this place therefore I decided to go check it out with my family. We usually go to Fishermen Terrace, Golden Harvest...and a few more from here and there but those two is our usual places.

Dragon View Restaurant is located on the second floor in the continental plaza in Richmond. I've been here for dinner a long time ago with my previous work company but I never came here for dim sum before. They have an elevator and stairs to go to the second floor. Most people just walk up because it just ends up faster than using the elevator. I recommend calling in before you go because this place gets packed super fast. Make sure you have reservations before going, otherwise you may have to wait for a long ass time.

At the "bar/cashier" desk near the front was fully decorated with hello kitty decor. Seems like the boss lady has a major obsession with hello kitty.

Tin Tin Seafood Restaurant

Hey everyone,

Our family loves going to Dim sum during weekends because we designate that time for family time. Last weekend was Moon Cake Festival so booking a table for Dim Sum last minute was probably not the best idea. I had to call up several places until I came across Tin Tin Seafood Restaurant and they had tables available. When we got there, surprisingly we found parking. They have their own parking lot but its not the biggest. When we walked in, it wasn't as busy as we thought it'll be, which was somewhat good, because we were starving.

女煮人/ 聊Dry男 Cook Your Life- After Thoughts

Welcome back to Domoiscraving! Today's blogpost will be slightly different from our usual. We usually just talk about food but this post will be about the Cook Your Life & Mechat Show that happened last week. If you read my blogposts frequently, you may have noticed I did a preshow blogpost about this event. 

I want to thank Gateway Theatre for inviting us to this show and really engaging us in a whole new level of food involvement. Phil & I will move in together in a few years so going through this whole show was an eye opener. I love eating food but I'm not the best at cooking. I've been teased by my family multiple times saying I should just stick with eating out.

I usually don't go to these Live Stage performances and I think it has to do with my generation. We were brought up with televisions by our side, so Live Acts were never really on our mind. When we got this invite we thought "hey, lets just go and see what it's all about!" We went with minimal expectations but I must say they did a SUPERB job on stage. 

Taste of Aberdeen

This week I was invited by Chinesebites to their Taste of Aberdeen Media Event. This event we got to sample some of the top items from every food court vendor at Aberdeen. Everything was just absolutely amazing and I will list some of my personal top faves at the end of this post! 

I occasionally eat at Aberdeen but I usually just go to my usual vendors, so during this event it really opened up my mind to try out the other different vendors that are there. Phil goes to Aberdeen Food Court to eat quite frequently but unfortunately he wasn't able to attend this event with me because his company was invited to a Lobster Festival. Therefore, I brought my friend Alison with me. She personally eats at Aberdeen quite frequently as well so she was really excited to try some of the dishes that she never ordered before.

Uncle Lu

Hey everyone!

Welcome back to Domoiscraving and today we will be talking about Uncle Lu! The chinese wording at the front is exactly like Corner 23 so I assume they have some sort of a relation to each other. I'm not sure if this is exactly true but I heard that the boss of Corner 23 sold that name to another person and now opened Uncle Lu in Richmond to continue the popular Taiwanese chain restaurant here in Vancouver.

This restaurant is located in Continental Centre in Central Richmond. This plaza is usually filled with people because majority of the stores are restaurants. When we got there, we noticed at the front of the restaurant they have a sign up sheet where you can put down your name & number of people & they'll base off that list and give you a table accordingly. Also this place is CASH ONLY! Since their front isn't extremely big, we decided to step out to wait for our table. They taped up posters along the windows showing their signature dishes. Just looking at the images was making me drool already.

When we got to our table, we were given menus and they were probably the nicest looking menus I've seen in a Taiwanese restaurant. Their interior is smaller than expected but because of their tall ceilings, it didn't feel constricted at all. They had lantern decoration light fixtures above and at the back wall they featured this big piece with a bunch of asian words. Because my Chinese only goes to a certain extent, there's no way how I can translate that but at least it looks cool!

Hakkasan Bistro

Hey everyone!

Domo Is Craving's team was invited to a dinner event hosted by Hakkasan Bistro. Our invite first started at Canada Berries, which is a local Richmond fruit winery. We went there around 5:30pm for a wine tasting. Their fruit wines tasted amazing and my personal favourite was the Gooseberry. Their staff was very informative in terms of their history, their products & you can definitely tell how passionate they were about their wines. I highly recommend checking them out because they only sell their fruit wines at their Richmond winery. I will include their address at the bottom of my post in case anyone wants to drop by and check them out! I highly suggest trying the Gooseberry & the Blue Queen Dry! The ones I like are not the super sweet ones but if you are the kind who like sweet wines, I recommend trying out their Princess Peach or Princess Cranberry Fruit wine. The Princess Peach wine is also a great sangria mix!
We were also served with appetizers on the side to pair with our wine. I was really enjoying their home grown grapes. They told us to try the grapes because apparently people always say Richmond can't grow great grapes. I can personally say that their home grown Richmond grapes taste amazing and they are extremely juicy and sweet!

Memory Corner

A month ago, Phil & I went to a Taiwanese Restaurant across from Richmond Center called Memory Corner. We're always looking for new Taiwanese restaurants in Richmond because we always tend to go to Bubble World when we don't know where to go. This time around, we searched up on Zomato in advance to see what other Taiwanese Restaurants are in the area. The ratings and reviews look pretty positive for Memory Corner so we decided to give it a try!

When we first stepped in, we were instantly intrigued by some of the displays shown in their restaurant. At the back of the restaurant were two Chinese looking dolls that were being displayed at the back. Their menu was also written and designed in a very traditional style. 

Strike - Aberdeen

Hey Everyone,

So the ever-changing food court stall by the washroom at Aberdeen's food court has now changed to Strike! This is the same Strike that is also at Garden City and Alderbridge where the self-carwash is and K-Mix, except this Strike specializes in sandwiches and wraps. 

Personally I love sandwiches, so I was very interested to see just how good their sandwiches were, since that's all they sell here basically. 

The look of the stall is very modern, with all menu boards being digital on 3 vertical screens. There's a large chalkboard-like display beneath it, showing the structure of their sandwiches. With such a display, one would think they would be experts at sandwiches, and that they should be uber delicious! They really hyped it up for me!

Gloucester Cafe

I always have those days with Phil where we randomly decide to go out for dinner but can never decide where to go. For us, there are WAY too many options and sometimes it gets difficult to see which restaurant we want to try out next. It also gets determined by what type of cuisine we want to eat that day... but it always ends up the same list...
My list is always either: Japanese or Viet...sometimes Chinese café food!
For Phil: WESTERN.

Therefore, we always end up listing the same types of restaurants OVER and OVER again... If you guys have any suggestions on restaurants, PLS comment or send us an email!

Anyways! Back to our topic of the day, Gloucester Café.
Back when I was a lot younger, this was one of the places my fam would hit up at least once a month. But because the restaurant market is increasing massively, customers expectations of the value of the food and the quality is raising up too. I remember at a certain point, Gloucester Café food was just not worth the price. After a few years now, I suggested to Phil lets give this place a try!

When we entered in to the restaurant we were seated immediately. When we looked at the menu we were overwhelmed but also disappointed. We were hoping they have the "Choose 2 meats, with rice or spaghetti + drink and soup on the side" combination. But unfortunately they don't. They have those types of set meals for around $20-23 dollars. Which I thought was ridiculous. I might as well just hit up milestone if I were to pay that kind of price for food.

None of the other meals came with drink unless you pay extra. Which would be approx. $2.50 extra for a lemon ice tea. Therefore, we just stuck with our tea the whole night as our beverage.

Phil ordered the Portuguese Chicken Baked Rice $12.99.
I don't think any restaurant would cook this badly because the sauce is just great! Every time we order this from whichever Chinese Café restaurant, this dish will never disappoint. Full of chicken, potatoes & onions. Great flavor.

If you never tried the Portuguese Chicken before, the sauce is similar to curry sauce but minus the spice. It is a very creamy texture.

Shanghai Elan Restaurant

Sorry for the lack of blogposts lately. February is always the busiest time for me & Phil because it consists both of our birthdays, Valentines day, and soon to come, Chinese New Year.

So for Phil's Birthday dinner with his family, we ended up going to Shanghai Elan Restaurant which is located in Crystal Mall in Burnaby. Usually for his birthday we always choose to go to a western restaurant, but this year his uncle, auntie & grandma from Edmonton is visiting, so we decided to go for Shanghai cuisine. 

I've been here with Phil's family before and I always thought the food was decent. This time around is no differ. Some of the dishes we ordered this time is not what we usually order, so I was excited to try some new dishes!

First off, we got soup. This is called the Song Sao Fish Soup $12.50. It has heavy vinegar flavoring, so if you don't like vinegar, I don't recommend ordering this soup. Overall, I thought it was okay, the vinegar taste did overlap the majority of the soup so you can barely taste anything else in it.

Next up, Special Crab Meat Sauce with Tofu $18.95. At first glance I assumed this was a spicy dish, but nope, it's just the Crab meat coloring. The crab meat sauce soaked up the tofu and it was just absolutely delicious. Pairing this with white rice was just the perfect combination.

Prince Seafood Restaurant

Hey Everyone,

I recently had dinner at the Prince Seafood Restaurant on Granview and Rupert with my coworkers. We had a private room, which was pretty sweet so we're away from the noise of the main dining area!

Their private room has very nice decor, which matches the rest of the restaurant, comes with a TV, chandelier, and some side tables to hold dishes, distribute food on, and chill white wine on!

Since we had quite a big party, we ordered many dishes, so most of the dishes will be my best guess of what it's called. For drinks, we had a lot of white wine and pitchers of Coke and Sprite, and of course tea.
