ORU Restaurant - The Fairmont Pacific Rim

Hey everyone!

Dineout Vancouver is back! There were so many options this year but we narrowed it down to a few restaurants we wanted to try. We went to Oru for our 5th year anniversary. Oru is located within the Fairmont Pacific Rim. They have a parking lot for guests and it costs approximately $14.00 to park. I would recommend taking the skytrain but if you are planning to dress all fancy to come here, you might as well drive and be more comfortable.

Fairmont Pacific Rim is a gorgeous hotel. Every detail from floor to ceilings were thought out and unique. Oru is located on the second floor to the left. Once you step up the stairs, you'll see this huge sign that says Oru. Then you'll see a narrow path down the hall and you'll see the hosts there to guide you in to your table. Phil and I thought the men who were working as hosts there were extremely good looking. They literally look like models to us.

We sat at a table where we can clearly see the kitchen, and their kitchen is amazing. I took a panoramic picture of the kitchen down below for you guys to see. Their kitchen was very well lit, bright and clean. The staff in there looked very professional and I was stoked to try out the food.

Their Dineout menu was $40.00 and you get to pick an appetizer, an entree & a dessert with the options provided.  (Pls note, the food photos were edited due to the dim lighting at the restaurant.)

For appetizer, I ordered the Foraged Mushroom Tart- Neufchâtel cheese, shallot duxelle, pine nuts, crisp parmesan. This was a cold dish but still tasted delicious. I love their tart base with mushroom & cheese on top. It was a great and fresh appetizer to start off the evening.

Phil got the Seared Qualicum Scallops-maple-corn purée, cilantro pesto, sumac, pea tendrils. His portion was much smaller than mine but it was REALLY delicious. The scallops were seared and seasoned perfectly and it was Phil's fave dish of the night! Quality over Quantity!

For our entree, we both decided to get the Braised Bison Short Rib- steel cut oats, poached roots, snowflake celery. The portion was much larger than I expected. Usually coming to these fancy restaurants I don't expect much quantity but this was very filling for me! The short rib was tender and soft but it was just lacking a bit of flavor. I was very full from this dish while for Phil, he was not. He didn't find this dish appealing in flavor and also leaving his stomach still wanting more food.

For dessert, Phil ordered the Almond Chocolate- almond cake, chocolate glaze, amaretto cream, bitter orange compote. I tried it, it was okay.. nothing special. Phil thought it was average and nothing spectacular.

I ordered the Red Wine Poached Pear-pear cider, hazelnut milk chocolate, mascarpone cream, pear sorbet.
I HIGHLY recommend getting this dessert because it was so fresh and refreshing! The base is the poached pear and on top is the pear sorbet. Great flavor and I loved this so much. This was my highlight dish of the night.

Phil LOVES root beer, so he decided to try out their Kentucky Float ($19.00). Its a very expensive drink and we don't recommend ordering it. The taste of bourbon was extremely strong and you can barely taste the root beer.

I can't believe Phil & I have been dating for 5 years and we officially got engaged in Dec 2015! It's crazy how time flies and I'm so glad we have our own blogging platform so we can do this together and have fun together! Thank you everyone who has supported our blog and continues to read our reviews and thoughts!
Much more blogs to come in 2016!
